How much PSI should I inflate my Glide paddle board to?

Inflating your paddle board to the correct pressure is one of the most important things you can do for performance, safety, and longevity. The good news is that Glide boards are designed to perform well without needing extreme pressure.
Here’s how to get it right.

The recommended PSI

Most Glide inflatable paddle boards are designed to be inflated to 12–15 PSI.
That range provides the best balance of stability, stiffness, comfort, and safety.
You’ll find the recommended PSI printed directly on your board.

Why Glide boards don’t need extreme PSI

Glide boards use woven (and often cross-woven) dropstitch construction. This makes the board dimensionally stable and allows it to feel solid at lower pressures compared to boards that rely on knitted dropstitch.
In practice, Glide boards often feel very stiff well before the gauge reaches the final PSI range. That’s normal.

About the pressure gauge

It’s very common for the pump gauge to look like it isn’t working at first.
Most gauges don’t register until a minimum pressure is reached. Glide boards become very firm at low PSI due to woven dropstitch, often around 1–2 PSI, which is below where most gauges begin to move.
Keep pumping. The gauge will begin to register as pressure increases.

Heat and pressure

Air pressure increases as temperatures rise. A board inflated to the correct PSI in the morning can gain pressure later in the day if left in the sun or on hot ground.
Because Glide boards perform well without needing extreme PSI, staying within the recommended range provides a healthy margin for pressure changes caused by heat.
On very hot days:

  • Inflate toward the lower end of the recommended PSI range.
  • Avoid leaving the board fully inflated in direct sun when not in use.

Can I damage my board by over-pumping?

You will not damage a Glide board using the included manual pump.
The board is designed to handle normal hand-pumping forces, and it’s very difficult to accidentally over-inflate using a manual pump alone. Just stay within the recommended PSI printed on the board.

Real-world guidance

As a general reference:

  • Flatwater paddling: 12–14 PSI
  • Heavier paddlers or carrying gear: 14–15 PSI
  • Hot conditions: stay closer to the lower end of the range

Small adjustments are normal. You don’t need to overthink it.

Summary

  • Inflate your Glide board to 12–15 PSI, as printed on the board.
  • The board will feel solid well before the gauge starts moving.
  • More PSI is not automatically better.
  • Manual pumping will not damage the board.
  • Be mindful of heat and sun.

If you’re unsure, inflate conservatively and add air as needed.
