Inflatable paddle boards are built to be durable, but they’re not indestructible. Like any piece of outdoor gear, they wear over time based on how they’re used, stored, and cared for.
Understanding the difference between normal wear and a warranty issue helps set clear expectations and leads to faster, more straightforward support.
What counts as normal wear and tear
Normal wear and tear comes from regular use and environmental exposure. This includes things like:
- Cosmetic scuffs or scratches.
- Fading from sun exposure over time.
- Minor deck pad wear.
- Dirt, sand, or abrasion from launching and landing.
- Normal softening of materials after years of use.
These changes do not affect the safety or performance of the board and are part of owning outdoor equipment.
Deck pad appearance: what’s normal and what’s not
Deck pads take more abuse than almost any other part of a paddle board. They’re stepped on, rolled up, compressed, exposed to sun, and pressed against gear during transport and storage.
Glide boards use die-cut EVA deck pads. EVA is a durable, lightweight foam designed for grip and comfort, but it is still a soft material. Because of that, the following characteristics are normal and expected:
Separation between pad colors or sections
Die-cut EVA pads are installed in sections. Small gaps or separation lines between colors or pad sections can appear over time due to temperature changes and normal material movement. This is cosmetic only and does not affect performance or comfort.
Dents and impressions
Dents or impressions in the deck pad are very common, especially:
- After rolling the board up.
- Under bungee cords.
- Where straps or accessories rest.
- From compression during storage or transport.
These marks are unavoidable with EVA foam. In many cases they fade over time once pressure is removed. Even when they don’t, they do not affect how the board paddles or feels underfoot.
Bubbles or texture variations
Small or large bubbles, texture variations, or surface inconsistencies in EVA foam are normal. EVA naturally contains air pockets from the manufacturing process, which can become visible with use, pressure, or temperature changes.
None of these deck pad characteristics affect the board’s safety, performance, or comfort, and they are not warranty issues.
What is not considered normal wear
Some issues aren’t caused by regular paddling, but by external factors. These are typically not covered under warranty:
- Damage caused by prolonged heat or sun exposure.
- Seam or material damage from pressure increases due to heat.
- Damage from storing the board fully inflated in hot environments.
- Cuts, punctures, or abrasions from rocks, docks, fins, or transport.
- Damage from leaving the board strapped to a vehicle in the sun.
Most of these issues happen off the water.
What the warranty does cover
Glide’s warranty is designed to cover manufacturing defects, not damage caused by use, storage, or environmental exposure.
This may include:
- Issues with materials or construction.
- Seam or bonding failures not related to heat or misuse.
- Problems that appear early in the life of the board under normal use.
If something looks wrong out of the box or fails prematurely despite proper care, that’s what the warranty is for.
Why care and storage matter
Inflatable boards live in a tough environment. Heat, UV, moisture, and pressure all add up over time. Proper care and storage dramatically reduce the likelihood of issues and help your board last for many seasons.
A large percentage of warranty claims we see are related to heat exposure, storage conditions, or normal cosmetic wear.
How to get help if you’re unsure
If you’re not sure whether something is normal wear or a warranty concern:
- Take clear photos.
- Contact Glide support.
- Include details about how the board is used and stored.
We’ll give you a straight answer and help you figure out next steps.
Summary
- Normal wear happens with use.
- Deck pad dents, bubbles, and separation are cosmetic and expected.
- Heat and storage-related damage is not a warranty issue.
- Manufacturing defects are covered.
- Proper care makes a big difference.
